Artist's Statement: My painting practice is rooted in a deep respect for tradition, while my subject matter reflects my adventurous spirit and active lifestyle. From the deserts of southern Utah to the Japanese Alps, I bring my painting kit along and capture small "plein-air" sketches which I later use in the studio as inspiration for larger compositions. I do not use photographs in my process, instead I rely on my studies, memory and imagination to bring my ideas to life. I also seek out opportunities to collaborate with conservation organizations to raise awareness and money for the protection of the areas where I paint. While landscapes are my current obsession, I also love the chance to indulge in highly detailed still life and figure paintings.
