Pastel Wildlife Paintings
I've spent much of my life on a ranch homesteaded by my grandparents in the Crazy Mountains of Montana, an hour north of Yellowstone Park. Being surrounded by wildlife and livestock led to my passion to recreate particular moments I've had the good fortune to share with some of these animals.
Surface manipulation and the versatility of the pastels, give me the variety in textures I'm after. Layering the colors, changing the pressure I apply, and using the harder or softer brands of pastels all combine to help me convey the smooth coat of a horse or the shagginess of a grizzly.
