Artist Statement
The act of painting whether en plein air or in the studio is, when everything goes well, a moment of creative flow. Of course, not everything goes well all the time, but it is the reward of finding that ultimately satisfying moment that keeps me wanting to paint even more. I have always been visually oriented and I enjoy the process of finding the balance of learning how to “see” what is there while also creating something that is visually interesting and even visually challenging. Painting to me is also a process of constantly honing a craft. Every painting teaches me more about my materials, challenges my way of doing things, and forces me to try something new and different. While most of my paintings tend to be landscapes, still lives and figurative paintings provide me with different types of task that I love to engage in.
